Russian Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar called on Jews to dedicate this Shabbat to prayers for peace and calm following the outbreak of war between Russia and Ukraine.
"Shalom (peace) Peace is one of the names of G-d, and to him we pray every day that he will give peace between man and his fellow and between the various peoples, and it is also his will that we do everything in our power for a life of peace between all," reads the rabbi's special letter.
"We call on you to pray that blood will not be shed, G-d forbid, and of course to provide any support to those who are now having a particularly difficult time, including those who have been forced to leave their homes, who now need physical help along with psychological assistance. We will all open our hearts, out of confidence and faith, and we will merit peace and tranquility, G-d willing."
