Religious Services Minister Matan Kahana claimed on Sunday that the opposition of MK Bezalel Smotrich and the haredi factions to the Nissim outline led to the fact that Reform conversions are recognized in Israel with regard to the Law of Return.
"Even 1000 sages cannot take out a stone that one fool has thrown into a well," Kahana wrote in a WhatsApp group of members of the Yamina party. "Many things can be said about Smotrich, but he is not stupid. In short, ‘thanks to’ Smotrich (and Deri), Reform conversion is recognized in the country in the matter of the Law of Return. This law does not rectify the situation. Good night".
