Minister of Religious Affairs Matan Kahana responded to allegations against the conversion reform and claims that all such criticism is fake news.

"For the first time in the history of Israel, the law states that conversion to Judaism will be done according to Torah law. This is a great achievement that no coalition has ever been able to achieve. The allegations against the recognition of Reform conversions should be directed to Smotrich and Deri, who have thwarted any compromise in the past that would have conferred exclusivity on Orthodox conversion."

"Where was Bezalel when I and Rabbi Druckman last tried to promote a change in conversion laws? Alongside Deri, of course. Everything that was determined in the Supreme Court is signed in their name and because of them. We won't deal with their negligence now; instead, we will concentrate on carrying out many conversions according to Halacha. The claims about illegal infiltrators converting is likewise fake news - the law stipulates that city rabbis can only convert Israeli citizens. Anyone who says otherwise or has not read the law or is knowingly lying," Kahana added.
