The Chief Rabbis of Israel responded to the approval of the conversion reform by the Ministerial Committee for Legislation.
"This law transgresses the prohibition against deceiving a convert because those who use it for their conversion will not be considered Jewish by the vast majority of Rabbis and religious judges both in Israel and elsewhere. The decision to give this authority to municipal Rabbis without regard for the Chief Rabbinate is a serious breach of our traditions and threatens our nation's unity."
