According to him, given the extensive extent of infection in the fifth wave and the data showing that the infection apparently provides protection against variants similar to Omicron, there is potential for a relatively long respite until the next wave, and it seems there will be a long interval between the fifth wave and the wave that may follow. The senior official also said that alongside this, a new variant that is very different from the Omicron may change expectations and lead to an earlier outbreak.
