Former Israel Police commissioner Roni Alsheikh commented on the police spyware scandal, saying that none of the names mentioned by the Calcalist report were ever targeted.
At a Reichman University conference, Alsheikh said: "The police do not use Pegasus. Every investigation named was thoroughly reviewed, and the claims are false. Pegasus was never used. All our investigations and surveillance is done with a warrant, and to say that what we did is comparable to Pegasus is to insult the Pegasus program."
"The police have only the tools that the law allows. Sometimes, we wished we had more, but we are extremely sensitive in this matter. The whole story is a spin, and someone will pay for it," he added.
