Religious Services Minister Matan Kahana welcomed the government's decision to approve compensation for the families of those killed in the Meron disaster.

Kahana said ''Financial compensation for families is the least we can do for those who have lost their loved ones. The pain cannot be cured and the victims, unfortunately, cannot be replaced, but we have the ability to prevent such failures in the future."

"The upcoming Lag B'Omer will pass, God willing, without incident, and the celebration on the mountain will be regulated once and for all. The celebration will continue to take place, but in a safe and responsible manner for the worshipers. This is what the victims would have wanted," Kahana added.
