The chairman of the Economics Committee, MK Michael Bitton, submitted a bill banning the disconnection of electricity supply to the domestic consumer.
In a post on social media, Bitton wrote: "We will not leave the weakest behind in bone-chilling cold, I will fight for a life with dignity for every woman and man, every girl and boy."
According to Bitton, tens of thousands of families in Israel are disconnected from the electricity supply every year due to non-payment to the IEC."Regular power supply in the modern age is a basic right that should be given to every citizen regardless of his ability to pay, like the water supply, the ban on the disconnection of which is enshrined in law."
