Former senior police officer Yossi Sedbon on Tuesday responded to reports that the Israel Police used the highly controversial Pegasus spyware system to hack into phones belonging to regular Israeli citizens without a warrant.

"I was surprised when I heard the report because I do not know a police officer who will take on wiretapping and the associated criminal risk. We have a legal way to do wiretapping, through a court order," Sedbon told Galei Tzahal (IDF Radio).
