The ministerial committee on fighting the coronavirus (the Coronavirus Cabinet) convened on Tuesday night to discuss the continued effort to combat the Omicron strain.
At the start of the discussion, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz explained to the ministers the main points of government policy as well as its actions in the framework of dealing with the current wave. The Prime Minister elaborated on the main points, according to which emphasis must be placed on the vulnerable population and on children in Israel alongside maintaining an open and functioning economy. Ministers were also asked to take a more active role in explaining the policy to the Israeli public.
Cabinet members were also briefed on the morbidity of the Omicron strain, policy on testing and contacts, as well as scenarios regarding the absorptive capacity of the health system.
Cabinet members also received an in-depth briefing by the team of experts on the scope of morbidity and trends regarding the fifth wave as well as on the team's recommendations.
