The head of the police operations division, Lt. Gen. Shimon Nachmani, told a commission of inquiry into the Meron incident that he had expressed concerns about allowing the celebration to occur, but was told by the commissioner "Don't worry, I'll handle the commission of inquiry."
MK Itamar Ben-Gvir (Religious Zionism) commented: "The commissioner failed in the Meron disaster, failed during Guardian of the Walls, and should go home before another disaster occurs."
