The Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) has issued another warning to the general public regarding scammers attempting to swindle IEC customers out of money via a fake website mocked up to look like the IEC's own site.

IEC customers have been targeted with text messages calling on them to "settle their bill" with the company via a link that will enable them to make a payment via credit card.

Clicking on the link leads to a request for the customer's ID number on a website that closely resembles that of the IEC. The person who fills in his ID number is then asked to give his credit card details.

The general public is asked to be wary of any text messages sent from agents purporting to represent the IEC, which does not usually request payment in such a manner, and to note the correct website address of the IEC (iec.co.il/home).
