Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, Rabbi of Safed, and Rabbi Yaakov Shapira, Rosh Yeshivat Merkaz Harav, came to the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi David Lau, to consult on the conversion outline proposed by Minister of Religions Matan Kahana.
The rabbis presented to the chief rabbi the picture and the many inquiries they receive from rabbis and dayanim on the subject.
The chief rabbi told the rabbis that the proposed outline is "a rift within the Jewish people and would deceive converts." and everything must be done to reject it outright.
