A Palestinian Arab woman was arrested near the Cave of the Patriarchs after a search of a bag in her hand revealed a knife.
At first she refused to open the bag on inspection, but after a loud confrontation someone opened the bag and the knife was found.
The suspect was transferred for Shabak interrogation, the background to the incident is being examined.
