"If we do not take immediate and difficult steps now, we will reach a lockdown," Prime Minister Naftali Bennett warned at a cabinet meeting, amid fears of the spread of Omicron variant in Israel.

Right now the immunization rate is terrible. Keeping the borders open is critical," Bennett added.

Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz said at the hearing, "We are very troubled by the Omicron, there are all sorts of indications of a serious illness, we have decided on a series of measures and an extension of existing regulations. The more enforcement there is the faster we can finish with it."
