The outgoing head of intelligence, Major General Tamir Heiman, said in an interview with the Journal of Intelligence and Security at the Intelligence Heritage Center that Israel has succeeded in "preventing the Iranians' attempt to take root in Syria."

He said, "We have carried out a great many assassinations and disruptions of money transfer routes and weapons. The highlight of these efforts is the prevention of the Iranians' attempt to take root in Syria."

As for the prevention of a nuclear bomb, Heiman says there is a possibility of a kinetic attack, in parallel with the possibility of a secret channel in which an agreement with Iran will be attempted. However, he qualified this, adding: "There are large gaps between the parties. The West and the United States cannot return to the outline of the previous agreement because the reality has changed, and there are a number of violations by the Iranians. We understand the significance of the Iranian timeline. The Iranian timeline is long-term, and they are patient. The Iranians believe that justice is with them."
