Speaking on Galei Tzahal this morning, MK Yair Golan (Meretz) addressed the chaos currently prevailing in Lebanon.
"A vacuum of power is an open invitation to extremists, which is something Iran understands all too well," he said. "That's why Iran has so much influence in Lebanon. The question now is whether the current civilian crisis there will destabilize security, and that's impossible to know at this point. Israel should be doing what it can to influence matters in Lebanon," he noted.
"We're still some way off actual war - everyone can sleep easy at night," he added. "We have to take a balanced approach to what's going on there, and primarily, we have to understand what we failed to internalize during the Second Lebanon War - that the only solution is to take the offensive in peripheral areas in order to paralyze the main areas where shooting is going on."
