According to a report in the Maariv-Weekend newspaper, IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi and Defense Minister Benny Gantz are pressuring Prime Minister Naftali Bennett with regard to his selection of a new head of the Shabak (ISA), and have told Bennett that they will have problems working with one of the two candidates for the position.
Maariv claims to have heard from several sources that Kochavi and Gantz did not present Bennett with an ultimatum, but that they impressed upon him that cooperation between the IDF and the ISA would suffer if a certain candidate was chosen.
People close to Gantz have denied the veracity of the report, saying that Gantz did not recommend either candidate and in fact told Bennett that both of them are acceptable. The IDF has declined to respond to the report.
