Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi has released a statement supporting the commanders in the incident leading to the death of Sgt. Barel Shmueli.
"Defense means fighting and fighting requires sacrifice. Our mission is to differentiate the enemy from civilians. A society that does not support its soldiers and commanders, even when they are wrong, will find that there is no one to fight for it."
