In a letter to the IDF Chief of Staff and the military prosecution service, MK Itamar Ben Gvir (Religious Zionism) demanded the establishment of a commission of inquiry into the failures that led to the fatal shooting of Border Police officer Barel Hadarya Shmueli, who passed away yesterday.

"A criminal inquiry should be opened in order to determine the legal culpability of the officer whose decisions led to the death of of Barel, who faced a riot of hundreds of terrorists," Ben Gvir wrote.

"Despite the fact that in recent years, there have been a number of similar incidences, including terrorists throwing explosives and firing at IDF soldiers, officers still ordered soldiers under their command to refrain from firing, and allowed terrorists to approach the border wall, which led directly to the death of Barel."
