Col. (res.) attorney Ran Cohen Rochberger, representing the family of Barel Hadarya Shmueli, the Border Police officer who passed away yesterday after being shot on the Gazan border, is demanding that the military establish an independent commission of inquiry into the incident.

"We want to see a genuine and penetrating process," Rochberger told Radio 103FM. "We want the circumstances that led up to the incident to be examined at all levels of command, as it is clear that there were multiple failings here. Barel was hurriedly called up to replace another officer and did not receive the required briefings and instructions - all he was told was that he was to try to 'contain' the riot and not cause unnecessary injury. That's why we are so frustrated."
