Speaking on Galei Tzahal this morning, Prof. Nachman Ash, the director-general of the Health Ministry, discussed the high infection rate and its implications.
"At the present time, we have 727 seriously ill people in our hospitals," he said, "and the rate of increase has slowed somewhat. We're not seeing a decline in numbers yet," he stressed, "but the increase does appear to be slowing, and that's a good sign.
"If we reach a figure of three million people vaccinated with the third dose by Rosh Hashanah," he added, "we'll start to see the numbers go down and we'll emerge from this wave of the virus. And if we are careful to guard against students studying in close proximity to one another once schools open, I don't think that we'll see a rise in infection rates."
