US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and the South Korean Foreign Minister reaffirmed their countries' commitment "to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula."
The announcement was made following a meeting of the two on the sidelines of the G7 conference in the UK.
The statement does not refer to North Korea's nuclear stockpile.
