A senior Egyptian intelligence official involved in Cairo's efforts to turn the ceasefire agreement in Gaza into a permanent deal involving a prisoner exchange between the sides told Israel Hayom that, "since the declaration of ceasefire, any progress made in practice has been negligible."

"The political situation in Israel does not ease the process because there is currently no one in Jerusalem capable of making decisive decisions, and all the discussions and talks currently taking place are nothing more than hot air. Israelis are unable or unwilling to advance contacts at the moment, and we have no idea what the direction is. We do not know what the spirit of things is," he complained.
