Around seven thousand police officers have been deployed across Hong Kong to enforce a ban on protests or gatherings on the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, The Guardian reports.
Any commemoration of the massacre is forbidden in China but until this year, Hong Kong usually saw candlelight vigils to mark the anniversary. However, China has been clamping down hard on Hong Kong in recent months and the vigils are now a thing of the past.
This morning, a Hong Kong barrister and activist was arrested for promoting an unauthorized assembly.
