Modiin Mayor Haim Bibas, chairman of the Federation of Local Authorities in Israel, commented:
"The government in Israel is in a constant state of disarray. The top echelons of the government have been busy for the past three years playing 'Game of Thrones' instead of running the country.
"In the absence of a government, we, the heads of local governments, have become the nation's leadership. Local governments are the only stable governments in the State of Israel. Local authorities throughout the country have bravely faced the many challenges brought by the COVID-19 crisis and the recent military campaign, despite the national government's shortcomings."
Bibbs added, "We did all this without resources and without financial support from the state. If we, the heads of local governments, are to do all the actual work, we need the tools to do so. Give us a realistic budget and let us work until you finish fighting for seats in the Knesset."
