The Likud appealed to the Legal Adviser of the President's Residence and the Legal Adviser of the Knesset, demanding that MK Yair Lapid meet the same conditions for the formation of the government which were required at the time by Prime Minister Netanyahu.
Thus, according to the Likud, it is not possible to make do with a laconic statement on an apparent government formation, MK Lapid must specify which government he was able to form, what the faction composition is, whether it is an alternate government, and if it has an alternate prime minister. The Likud also says that according to the Basic Law of the Government, only MK Lapid can serve first as Prime Minister and has no authority to transfer the position to MK Bennett, who has not been assigned the role of forming the government.
