The prosecutor's office has filed indictments in the city's district court against four Jerusalem residents in their 20s and 30s, who attacked an Arab on Agrippa Street near the Mahane Yehuda market in Jerusalem. They are charged with an act of terrorism, attempted murder, aggravated sabotage, participation in a riot and other offenses.
According to the indictment, on May 12, 2021, three of the defendants met on Agrippa Street in Jerusalem and marched together in a large procession toward Shimon Hatzadik Street. They arrived with the procession on Shimon Hatzadik Street and joined a large crowd, during which those present confronted police forces who were at the scene.
Later, the three returned to the Mahane Yehuda market and were joined by the fourth defendant. At the time, a young Arab man who was working at a nearby restaurant was passing by and was on his way to empty trash. The four who noticed the young man and began demanding to know if he was an Arab.
As soon as this was confirmed, they sprayed tear gas on him, beat, kicked, and hit his body while he tried to stop them. One of the four began stabbing the young man, while the rest of the defendants continued to beat him. As those around the street, who noticed what was happening, started shouting, the defendants left the young man and fled the scene. As a result of their actions the complainant suffered from ten stab wounds, he was rushed to the hospital where he was anesthetized and on respiration.
The prosecution is asking the court to order the detention of the defendants until the end of the proceedings against them.
