Defense Minister Benny Gantz announced today (Thursday) to Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi that he intends to extend his tenure for a fourth year. Gantz updated Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Attorney General on the matter.

Defense Minister Gantz said this morning: "Chief of Staff Kochavi has been leading the IDF for the past two and a half years, building its scope, flexibility, and lethality, achievements displayed by the IDF in Guardian of the Walls."

"In the last year under Chief of Staff Kochavi, the IDF has also harnessed its potential for civilian initiatives, including the battle against Covid-19."

"The chief of staff is a bastion of command and operational stability. Extending his tenure at this time of regional changes and challenges from a variety of arenas is critical to Israel's security."
