The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has called for a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza.
"Out of respect for Eid al-Fitr [the festival marking the end of Ramadan], I am asking that the parties order an immediate ceasefire," he wrote on Twitter.
"Innocent citizens have already lost their lives. The current situation can only inflame tensions across the region," he added.
