The Haifa District Court sentenced Ahmad Sa'adi, a 24-year-old resident of the Arab town of Sha'ab, to 6.5 years in prison.

Sa'adi was convicted of negligently killing one-year-old Julia Namirath in a "hit and run" accident in Sha'ab last August. In addition to the baby who was killed, four of the baby's family members sustained injuries.

At the time of the accident, Sa'adi was under the influence of drugs, did not obey instructions to stop from a police officer, passed another vehicle in a location where passing was illegal, and eventually crashed into the Namirath family's car.
