Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that the United States would transfer more than $ 596 million of humanitarian aid to Syria, intended to help the war-torn country overcome the economic and political crisis it has been embroiled in since the beginning of the civil war in 2011.
Blinken said the aid was intended to help some-13.4 million residents of the country, as well as approximately 5.6 million Syrian refugees in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt.
