The government of Niger said on Monday that gunmen aboard motorcycles attacked a series of villages near the country’s border with Mali, leaving at least 137 people dead.
The massacres come amid an escalation in attacks following the election of Niger's new president, Mohamed Bazoum, several weeks ago.
