Sri Lanka Public Security Minister Sarath Weerasekara signed a cabinet order banning the burqa and other face coverings in public, on the grounds of national security, Weerasekara told BBC.
The order now requires parliamentary approval, and officials say they expect the ban to be implemented soon.
