Meretz chairman MK Nitzan Horowitz reacted to the government's stated intention to extend the school year until the end of July.

''Abandonment of the education system is the deepest failure of the Netanyahu-Galant-Ganz government during the Coronavirus crisis. Even a hundred press conferences will not repair the damage Netanyahu and Galant have caused Israeli students and the local education system. Netanyahu's statements today are meaningless for two reasons: Teachers have not committed to continuing work in July, and Netanyahu cannot commit to what will happen after the election," said Horowitz.

"Israel needs an education minister committed to education, so Meretz will demand the education portfolio in the coming government," he added.
