The Israel Democracy Institute has sent an opinion to Deputy Attorney General Raz Nizri stating that restricting the entry to the State of Israel of its citizens is extremely problematic from a constitutional point of view, and that this policy has not been found in major democracies.
Moreover, the restrictions on citizens and permanent residents at the present time also infringe on the right to vote, since this right is conditional on presence in Israel.
The authors, Prof. Yuval Shani, Prof. Mordechai Kremnitzer, Dr. Amir Fox, Dr. Guy Luria and Nadiv Mordechai, call on the government to lift the ban on Israeli citizens entering the country, and at the very least, stipulate that it will not be possible to continue extending the existing model in relation to incoming citizens.
