Rabbi Gedaliah Schreiber, one of the fighters of the War of Independence who evacuated the fallen in Gush Etzion, together with Rabbi Goren and one of the founders of the first community center in the country in the Baka neighborhood of Jerusalem died at the age of 93.
Rabbi Schreiber served as the Director of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, the Director of the Ministry of Religions, the head of the Jerusalem Religious Council, was the founder of the largest kollel for retirees in Jerusalem and was President of the Yeshurun Synagogue in Jerusalem.
