US police have identified the woman shot and killed in the midst of rioting at the Capitol Building yesterday as Ashli E. Babbitt, aged 35, reported NPR.
According to the report, Babbitt was an Air Force veteran. Four additional individuals were killed in the day's protests.
The US military said Babbitt served in the Army from 2004 to 2008, US Air Force reserve from 2008 to 2010, and Air National Guard from '10 to '16. Babbitt was awarded the Iraq Campaign Medal for her service in the Middle East.
"She saw first hand through her multiple deployments overseas how others were treated and was grateful to have the freedoms we have in America," Babbitt's ex-husband was quoted as telling NPR.
