Officials in the Labor Party are meeting to discuss the implications of a court decision calling on the party to hold primaries.

Party chairman, Amir Peretz, told members of the board, "We will act on the recommendation of the legal advisers and once legal proceedings are exhausted, everyone will have to put their disagreements aside, and carry out the process of electing a new chairman as quickly and efficiently as possible."

"Israeli democracy needs the Labor Party, which is one of the remaining units upholding the nation's functioning institutions and proper democratic procedures. I intend to maintain an organized party ahead of the upcoming elections, which are crucial for the future of the Labor Party," said Peretz.
