Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion on Wednesday paid tribute to former minister Yehoshua Matza, who passed away at the age of 90.
"I would like to send my sincere condolences, on my behalf and on behalf of the city administration, to the dear members of the Matza family on the passing of my good friend, the man of Jerusalem, Yehoshua Matza. I have known Yehoshua personally for 30 years and we saw each other at many significant milestones in the Israeli public, when he served as Minister of Health, as Chairman of the Beitar Jerusalem Group and as President of the Bonds. Yehoshua was a great man, very devoted to the public mission, extraordinarily clever and intelligent and welcoming to everyone."
"Yehoshua was born in the Old City, and worked in and for the city his entire life. For 20 years he was a member of the city council and for a decade served as deputy mayor of Jerusalem, during which time he worked hard for Jerusalem and its residents. Yehoshua was an exemplary symbol of all that is good and beautiful in Jerusalem. From here, I send a big hug to his beloved family and especially to his dear daughters, Esther, Sigalit and Ayala, and to his son Amir - a dedicated employee of the Jerusalem Municipality," Lion said.
