Former Mavui Satum organization CEO Adv. Batya Kahane Dror attacked Minister Aryeh Deri, who ordered a halt to marriage registration of couples who married in Zoom.
"Minister Deri is harming couples who want to get married in the United States. These are couples that the State of Israel prevents them from marrying in Israel only because of surrender to the haredi parties, while at the same time it does not provide them with any other solution even in the days of COVID-19 when it isn't possible to fly abroad to get married.
"This is neither Judaism nor humanity nor democracy. The power that Deri has to harm civilians seeking marriage only emphasizes the urgent need to abolish the rabbinical monopoly on our lives, and enactment of the Civil Marriage Law."
