Histadrut Chairman Arnon Bar-David today asked Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to intervene in the outline emerging in the Finance Ministry, according to which following the opening of imports of the butter industry, the import of hard cheeses to Israel will also be opened and increased.

According to Bar-David, "The outline has far-reaching implications for the local dairy industry and its workers. The implementation of the outline will directly and immediately harm the Tel Yosef plant in Beit She'an, and is expected to close. As a result, thousands of workers living in Israel's geographical and social periphery will lose their jobs."

Bar-David also writes that "there is paramount importance in preserving Israeli-owned food sources, in order to ensure ourselves a regular food supply in times of quiet and emergency."
