Germany's Interior Minister told Der Spiegel magazine that given the country's spiking infection rates, lockdown seems to be the only reasonable option in order to regain control of the situation.

"The only chance to regain control of the situation is a lockdown, but this must happen immediately," he said. "If we wait until Christmas, we’ll have to struggle with high numbers for months."

Germany reported its worst-yet day of new diagnoses and deaths this week.
