The coronavirus spokesman for the Mexican government announced yesterday that the country’s median age of death from Covid-19 so far is just 55, as compared to an average of 75 in many European countries, AP reports.

Assistant Health Secretary Hugo López-Gatell said that Mexico’s vaccination program would target the oldest Mexicans first. He attributed the low median age to the country’s high rates of obesity, diabetes and hypertension. Mexico has one of the highest rates of obesity in the world.
