Speaking on Galei Tzahal this morning, Dr. Itai Pesach, a member of the panel of experts advising the government's coronavirus project manager, welcomed the news that the FDA has granted authorization to Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine.

"I hope that medical personnel will begin to be vaccinated as early as next week," he said. "As long as the figures keep rising, the doubts will vanish and I expect a large number of healthcare workers to agree to be vaccinated."

With regard to a third nationwide lockdown, Dr. Pesach said that, "It's not right to force businesses to close down when we reach 2,500 new cases per day - because we shouldn't reach that point in the first place. If we were to take localized measures, focusing on disease hotspots, we would be able to contain the rise in the number of cases. But the moment the rise begins to spread to the general population across the country, there's no longer any other option than nationwide lockdown."
