MK Moshe Gafni, the head of the Knesset's Finance Committee, told Kan Bet this morning that it was "unthinkable that the country will head to elections in the midst of the coronavirus crisis, without a budget in place."

He said such a thing would be a "disaster for the economy - it simply must not happen."

According to Gafni, "The Shas party is already resigned to the fact that we're headed toward elections - that's the impression I get of [party head Aryeh] Deri. By us in the UTJ party, we're divided between those who expect elections and those who expect a compromise to be hammered out. I number among those who predict a compromise agreement. In any case, the next round of elections won't produce anything different from what we have now. The blocs will remain steady although the numbers of seats held by the various parties may shift a little within the blocs. That's why there's no point in going to elections - they won't change anything."
