Rabbi Yigal Kaminetzky and head of the research department at the Torah and State Center, Prof. Rabbi Neria Gotel, are publishing a new ruling in which it is argued that the economic collapse following closures is necessary.
The rabbis believe that no matter how difficult and painful it is for us at the level of values on which the State has grown, in rare times (like COVID-19) one must think differently from a State's perspective. This, as stated, is contrary to other halakhic views that so far only have been heard and claim that everything possible must be done in order to save even one person's life.
This ruling is published in the framework of the first halakhic book currently being published by the Torah and State Center. The book "State Strike" deals with the subject of COVID-19 and deals with the economy, health, and herd infestation, in a broad view and not in the individual aspect.
