Professor Nadav Davidovitch, a member of the expert task force advising the government's coronavirus project manager, told Galei Tzahal this morning that a third nationwide lockdown is avoidable, but only if certain measures are taken.

"During our discussions, the question of a third lockdown comes up a lot," he said. "We need to increase the number of tests being administered, like we did before commencing the 'Green Island' project that allowed for the reopening of Eilat and the Red Sea resorts. And we need to give more authority and responsibility to the local authorities to implement government measures."

He added that, "It's not going to be a 'hey-presto and it's over' kind of approach. But we don't have to reach a situation in which a third lockdown becomes necessary. It depends mainly on how government and local officials approach this."
