Speaking on Kan Bet this morning, the director-general of the Education Ministry, Amit Edri, explained why he thinks students from all grades should return to class as soon as possible.
"When we look at the current data, five weeks after preschools reopened and three weeks after grades one to four resumed in-class learning, we see that in 95% of preschools and 90% of elementary schools there has not been a single documented case of coronavirus," he said.
"On the other hand, for those students who have been kept at home for prolonged periods, we are seeing emotional issues arising, feelings of isolation, and deterioration in behavioral issues. These are our 'hidden drop-outs,'" he said, "and we have to get these kids back to school."
