Speaking on Galei Tzahal this morning, Science Minister Izhar Shay (Blue & White) said that his party would respect the Supreme Court's ruling regarding the position of Alternate Prime Minister, whatever it turns out to be.
"If the Supreme Court decides that the Basic Law [as amended by the Knesset] is incorrect and must be changed, we will respect its ruling," he said.
The Supreme Court has given the government and the Knesset 21 days to explain why its amendment creating the position of Alternate Prime Minister should not be cancelled. Government officials have in the past suggested that if the position is indeed cancelled, the coalition agreement will be dissolved and the country will go to elections. Under the agreement, PM Netanyahu serves the first eighteen months of the current government's term, followed by Blue & White leader Benny Gantz, who meanwhile carries the title "Alternate Prime Minister."
